One of More Than Two Thousand Events Across the Country Showing Support for Health Insurance Reform

Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee dedicated to supporting President Obama's agenda for change, announced that they will hold a Health Insurance Reform Now: Let's Get it Done! Rally in Boston on Labor Day (Monday) at 11:00 AM at the gazebo at Boston Common. The rally will be hosted with a broad coalition of groups committed to passing health insurance reform this year, including Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and Health Care for America Now! (HCAN). Congressman Capuano, Congressman Tierney and Attorney General Coakley will join supporters of health insurance reform to discuss the need for passing reform this year. There will be a moment of silence to commemorate the life of Senator Kennedy.

Organizing for America will present 30,000 declarations of support for health insurance reform from Massachusetts residents to members of Massachusetts' Congressional Delegation at the rally.

The rally will be an opportunity for supporters of reform to show their backing for President Obama's principles for health insurance reform which have been simple and consistent -- reform will lower costs, protect choice and ensure all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care.

In addition to these basic principles, President Obama announced eight Health Insurance Guarantees which will protect the millions of Americans who already have insurance, but aren't getting the care they need because of sky-rocketing out of pocket expenses and unfair insurance company practices: 1) no discrimination for pre-existing conditions, 2) no exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles, or co-pays, 3) no cost-sharing for preventive care, 4) no dropping of coverage for the seriously ill, 5) no gender discrimination, 6) no annual or lifetime caps on coverage, 7) extended coverage for young adults, and 8) guaranteed insurance renewal.
