One of Nation's Oldest Blood Services Providers Turns to Sysmex America

ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 22 Blood Systems intends to purchaseup to 23 Sysmex XE-2100D(TM) Automated Hematology Analyzers for theorganization's 21 component production/quality control laboratories across theUnited States, said Blood Systems Vice President for Manufacturing SystemsDennis Harpool. Quality control procedures on prepared components and donoreligibility testing will be performed using the Sysmex XE-2100D to help ensurethat components deliver the expected therapeutic benefit, said Harpool.Today's announcement comes during the national meeting of AABB, formerly theAmerican Association of Blood Banks.

The Sysmex XE-2100D Automated Hematology Analyzer rapidly and accuratelymeasures parameters such as hemoglobin, hematocrit (direct) and plateletcount. It has the extended linearity capabilities required for theconcentrated cell preparations that make up component therapy.

The blood centers division of Blood Systems, made up of United BloodServices and Blood Centers of the Pacific, provides blood, blood componentsand special services to patients in more than 500 hospitals in 18 states.

"Our blood centers need automated hematology analyzers that are reliableand can produce accurate measurements rapidly. We have found these assets inthe Sysmex XE-2100D hematology analyzers and believe they will contribute tothe operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our blood centerlaboratories," said Harpool.

Blood Systems is licensed by the US Food and Drug Administration and itsblood centers hold current certifications for the Clinical LaboratoryImprovement Act (CLIA) and are accredited by AABB.
