One A Day(R) and Major League Baseball Raise Over $106,000 to Strike Out Prostate Cancer

MORRISTOWN, N.J., June 2 Watching your favorite playerstrike out isn't usually cause for celebration, but for One A Day(R)multivitamins and Major League Baseball (MLB) strikeouts are leading to bigwins. The makers of One A Day and MLB announced today the latest results ofthe "One A Day Men's Presents the MLB Strike Out Prostate Cancer Challenge."Created earlier this year as part of an exclusive partnership between MLB andOne A Day, the program has raised $106,120 to date for the Prostate CancerFoundation.

As part of the program, One A Day and MLB will donate $10 for everystrikeout throughout the 2008 Major League Baseball season to the ProstateCancer Foundation, the world's largest philanthropic source of support forprostate cancer research. An additional $1 million will be donated if any onepitcher achieves 21 strikeouts in a nine-inning game to set a new MLB record.The goals of the program are to raise funds to support research to find a curefor prostate cancer and to raise awareness about the importance of maintainingprostate health through proper nutrition and early detection of problems.

"We are thrilled that One A Day and Major League Baseball have cometogether to raise awareness and funds to help find better treatments and acure for prostate cancer," said Dave Perron, Vice President, Baseball andSports Enterprises for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. "With these two strongorganizations in the fight, we know we'll be able to do even more to find acure for this deadly disease."

Prostate cancer is a disease one in every six men will be diagnosed withduring his lifetime. For Chicago White Sox designated hitter and programspokesperson Jim Thome, the disease hits very close to home.

"Prostate cancer affects far too many men each year including members ofmy own family," said Thome. "So, getting involved in this program with One ADay was a no brainer. I want to do all I can to spread the word about thethings men can do to help maintain their prostate health."

Each month of the season, an update on the number of strikeouts andcontribution to date is announced through a national television and printcampaign. The program will culminate during the postseason with a televisedon-field ceremony announcing the strikeout and contribution totals for theseason.
