Odense University Hospital Revolutionizes Patient Care and Research with Hyland Software's OnBase Solution

LONDON, Nov. 14 Hyland Software today announces thatDenmark's largest hospital, Odense University Hospital, has implementedOnBase, Hyland's rapidly deployable suite of enterprise content management(ECM) software applications. Odense University Hospital implemented OnBasethrough KIBI Software Solutions, an Authorized OnBase Solution Provider inDenmark. OnBase is integrated with Cosmic, the Electronic Health Record (EHR)system used by Odense University Hospital.

Following an internal study, Odense University Hospital is able toretrieve documents associated with the patient's EHR 64 times faster thanprevious manual paper processes, enabling access to records directly fromCosmic in just seven seconds compared to more than seven minutes beforeOnBase.

Odense University Hospital is using OnBase to ensure compliance withnational regulations regarding the retention of documents and to improvepatient care via the ability to quickly access records for research purposes.Prior to implementing OnBase, Odense University Hospital had to providestorage space for paper-based documents and patients' records spanning morethan nine kilometers. Using OnBase, Odense University Hospital is now able toreduce costly storage space for paper documents, freeing up areas which can beused as additional consultation rooms for patients and other key hospitaltasks. Medical staff is able to quickly retrieve and review all the documentsin a patient's EHR during the patient's visit, decreasing the waiting timebefore receiving care.

Jette Kotsis, Section Manager at Odense University Hospital explained:"With OnBase, as patients are transferred between specialist hospitals andhealthcare professionals, their records can be shared without any delays. Thesolution has also hugely benefited our research personnel who are now able tosecurely access and share documents via a Web interface any time."

She added: "With a number of medical staff requiring access to a varietyof patients' records, having a solution that was quickly adopted was essentialfor us. OnBase is easy to use, and therefore, only a minimum amount oftraining is necessary. Our medical personnel now also have access to allmedical records in the operation room during surgery."

Susan deCathelineau, Healthcare Business Solutions Manager at HylandSoftware, said: "Odense University Hospital was the first of an increasingnumber of Danish hospitals using OnBase to meet their document managementneeds. In fact, many organizations in the healthcare sector are now adopting amore strategic view to effectively manage their documents to reduce time, costand space."

The documents stored in OnBase include all medical records such asconsultation, radiology, lab results as well as video files. According toDanish law medical records need to be kept for 15 years and some must be keptpermanently.

Odense University Hospital is planning to use OnBase in other departmentsacross the hospital including the human resources and accounting departments.
