Health care leaders, government policy makers, health care providers,researchers, industry experts, academic leaders, and consumer and patientadvocacy groups will be among the more than 200 attendees gathering at OhioState University's Biomedical Research Tower to hear from national leaders inpersonalized health care. Industry leaders will discuss breakthroughs in gene-based information that helps individuals prevent disease, tailor therapies andmaintain health.

With a conference theme of "Translating Science to Personalized HealthCare," invited speakers include Linda Avey, co-founder and co-president,23andMe, Inc.; Geoffrey Ginsberg, director, Center of Geonomic Medicine, DukeInstitute for Genome Sciences & Policy, Duke University; Lawrence Lesko,director, Office of Clinical Pharmocology, Center for Drug Evaluation andResearch, U.S. Food and Drug Administration; Edison Liu, executive director,Genome Institutes of Singapore, professor of medicine, National University ofSingapore, executive director, Singapore Cancer Syndicate and executivedirector, Singapore Tissue Network; and Jeffrey Trent, president andscientific director, Translational Genomics Research Institute.
Personalized health care utilizes gene-based information to understandeach person's individual requirements for maintaining their health, preventingdisease and tailoring therapies. It is predictive and preventive, while alsoincorporating knowledge of an individual's environment, health-relatedbehaviors, culture and values.
"Personalized health care is emerging as one of the most significantdevelopments in health care in the 21st century," said Dr. Daniel Sedmak,executive director of The Ohio State University Center for Personalized HealthCare. "The conference will serve as a national platform to discuss theemerging trends and latest developments of personalized health care researchand its integration into personalized health care."
