WHEELING, W.Va., Feb. 21 Northwood Health Systems has won"Best in Class" in the Interactive Media Awards for excellence in the design,development, and implementation of its website at www.northwoodhealth.com.According to Northwood's Director of Communications, Amy Shuler-Goodwin,Northwood's website won the highest possible award in both the Medical andNon-profit categories.
The award recognizes Northwood for meeting and surpassing the standards ofexcellence for website design and development. Northwood's website was chosenfrom more than 2,500 entries from organizations in 42 countries. The judgingpanel drew representatives from American Express, Microsoft, the New YorkTimes, and Time Warner, among others. The criteria used to judge thecompetition covered the website's design, usability, innovative technicalfeatures, compliance with web development standards, and content. In order towin this top award level, the site had to meet strict guidelines in each area-- an achievement only a fraction of sites in the competition earn each year.
Northwood's website offers more than 1,000 "free" accredited continuingeducation courses for health care workers, as well as information aboutNorthwood's strategic business model, which turned an almost-bankrupt healthcare provider into an organization that is successful financially andconsistently delivers high quality care.
Previously, Northwood was awarded the Web Award for OutstandingAchievement in Website Development from the Web Marketing Association, whichwas founded in 1997 to set a high standard for Internet marketing and WorldWide Web development. The competition included 2,300 Web sites from 35countries.
Northwood also won two awards during the National Health InformationAwards, sponsored by the Health Information Resource Center, a nationalclearinghouse for consumer health programs and materials. Northwood receivedtwo 2006 Silver Awards in the Education Division and Community OrganizationDivision.
