State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D. will also announce New York's continued commitment to the National Alliance for Tobacco Cessation (NATC), which champions the EX(®) campaign - a comprehensive national campaign that provides free resources designed to help smokers to quit. The NATC is a collaborative partnership of organizations at the national and state levels designed to present a national, unified and trusted voice from experts in public health to reverse the stalled decline in adult smoking rates.

WHY: The State Health Department's Tobacco Control Program remains focused on reducing the number of adult smokers by promoting cessation through mass media campaigns and linking New Yorkers with the EX campaign's online and informational resources.

The latest research estimates that nearly six million people will lose their lives to tobacco next year. The NATC created a campaign that provides direct assistance to help the 46 million Americans who smoke - including about 2.5 million New Yorkers - to finally quit. New York continues to maximize its smoking cessation resources through its NATC membership.
