New PSA Featuring Actress Kerry Cahill Promotes Craft Therapy Sponsored by Help Heal Veterans
WINCHESTER, Calif., Nov. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Help Heal Veterans (Heal Vets), the nation's largest provider of free therapeutic arts-and-craft kits to U.S. veterans and active duty military personnel, today launched a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) to raise awareness about the healing power of craft therapy.
The PSA, produced by Bright Light Agency, Inc., features award-winning actress Kerry Cahill, who lost her own father, an Army veteran, in the 2009 Fort Hood terror attack. The announcement delivers a simple message: "Craft therapy helps heal the mind and soul."
"I am so excited about working with Help Heal Veterans and supporting their program. It is an honor to help veterans in any way I can. Help Heal Veterans has done a wonderful job of helping our veterans who have fought for our country, and now it is time that we ensure they receive the necessary assistance for their healing," said Cahill.
Cahill is best known for her roles in "Walking Dead," "Free State of Jones," "Daddy's Home," "NCIS" and "True Detective," among others.
Help Heal Veterans, a nonprofit organization founded during the Vietnam War, supplies free arts-and-crafts kits to injured servicemen and women and U.S. veterans. The kits often become a part of the patient's treatment plan, providing a creative outlet for stress and boredom and a way to rebuild confidence and self-esteem. Help Heal Veterans has distributed more than 29 million kits since 1971 from hundreds of craft categories, including woodworking, leather, models, and a variety of needle crafts, among many others.
"As a captain in the U.S. Navy, I saw first-hand the devastating toll war can take on our service men and women," said Joe McClain, USN (Retired), CEO of Help Heal Veterans. "As the CEO of Help Heal Veterans, I've witnessed the tremendous healing power of craft therapy for our veterans. Through our PSA, we are hoping to reach more vets and let them know these craft kits are available to them free of charge."
