NEW YORK, Aug. 16 Moped Productions is partnering with Nick Ross, a 28-year old comedy star and cancer survivor, and Laundry Service Media, known for comedy writing and production, to create an uplifting documentary film about cancer, with a comic twist. This project, and the recent success of other issue-oriented projects, speaks to the growing intersection of entertainment and social progress.

Highly Evolved Human is the true story of an incredibly talented writer-performer navigating twenty-something life, while battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The funny, candid and powerful tale of Nick's experience with cancer will be told through a seamless fusion of a filmed stage show, sketch comedy reenactments, and documentary interviews. The film is an adaptation from Nick's critically acclaimed national stage show that was put on by Upright Citizen's Brigade. It is called Highly Evolved Human because when Nick was going through chemo and lost all his hair, he thought he looked very "futuristic." The video highlight reel is available at www.tinyurl.com/lsmyoutube.

This bold approach to confronting a ruthless disease, typically spoken of in hushed tones, blows the doors off a taboo topic and pushes the disease out into the open.

Sponsorship and branding partnerships are currently being discussed, to support production of the feature film as well as an accompanying national college campus tour that will include student forums on the topic of cancer. Also in the works is an interactive website that will facilitate open discourse, and establish resources for coping with issues related to cancer.

There are clear indicators of the opportunity for change in the cancer commentary: Showtime's August 16th premiere of The Big C, an original series featuring acclaimed actress Laura Linney, whose character receives a terminal cancer diagnosis; as well as the Seth Rogen comedy Live with It, currently in post-production.

Equipped with rich experience in developing cause-marketing campaigns, communication strategies, and branded comedy, Moped Productions and Laundry Service are set to begin production in the coming months.

One sheet, treatment, and project package available on request. Nick Ross is represented by Mike Esola at WME Entertainment. Laundry Service Media can be reached via Jason Stein at [email protected]. Moped Productions can be reached via Maureen Isern at [email protected].
