Children's Hospital's Healthy Weight Program found that families and caregivers are always looking for new meal and snacks ideas that are both healthy and taste good. Nutrition in the Kitchen was designed to do just that, offer families an easily accessible, free resource for all children, whether at a healthy weight or carrying excess weight. The "cookbook team" included a clinical dietitian who drove the process, considering healthy alternatives and cooking techniques that presented an improvement to less healthy approaches. Patients involved in Children's Hospital's Healthy Changes Program, and members of the Youth Advisory Council, taste-tested many of the recipes presented on this web site.

"Nutrition related content is included within the cookbook.. This way, families can learn about nutrition, apply the concepts while cooking and savor the results at the dining table," explained Rebecca Thomas RD, LDN, clinical dietitian, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "A nutrition facts label is also included with each recipe, which helps families understand the nutritional content of what they are eating."

Nutrition in the Kitchen is an engaging and educational resource that will provide families with deliciously healthy meal ideas for children of all ages. Written to encourage children to get involved preparing meals, families will find healthy versions of favorite dishes or recipes that will expose them to new foods and flavors. Visitors can search for a specific recipe or browse categories such as main dishes, side dishes, appetizers, snacks and desserts.
