The new 2008 Glycobiology Analysis Manual expands beyond the GlycoproteinAnalysis Manual 1st edition (2004) by including more topics important to theareas of glycoproteomics and glycomics. This second edition containsinnovative products, including GlycoProfile(TM) FLAG(R) Phosphine and azidolabeled sugars (http://www.sigma.com/azidopr) for metabolic labeling ofcarbohydrate structures, enzymes and substrates for glycan synthesis.

New subjects in the manual include cellular components, such as heparinand chondroitin sulfate, and bacteria-specific lipopolysaccharides andpeptidoglycans. Extensive tables of reagents for detection labeling, analysismethods, and enzymes are presented along with appropriate technicalreferences. The new Glycobiology Analysis Manual contains the largestselection of products available from a single source for glycobiologyresearch.
"Carbohydrate biology encompasses more than energy storage or cellstructure. Glycan (carbohydrate) structures participate in a broad variety ofcellular processes, including cell signaling, inflammation, and diseases suchas cancer," said Vicki Caligur, Product Manager, Sigma Biochemistry. "Thismanual is a valuable reference of techniques and products for novices andexperts alike in the field."
"Enabling resources like this fill a previously unmet requirement forresearchers new to the areas of glycoproteomics and glycomics," said Dr.Gerald W. Hart, Professor of Biological Chemistry, Johns Hopkins UniversitySchool of Medicine.
The Glycobiology Analysis Manual is supported by associated web-basedinformation (http://www.sigma.com/glycobiology) and Sigma-Aldrich's onlinetools such as the Enzyme Explorer(TM) (http://www.sigma.com/enzymeexplorer).
