New Awards Support Research in Biological Mechanisms of Aging

Glenn Foundation focuses on accelerating discoveries in the biology of aging



SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Glenn Foundation for Medical Research has completed the funding of its 2007 program of Glenn Awards for Research in Biological Mechanisms of Aging. A total of $1,250,000 was distributed in awards of $50,000 each, to 25 scientists in basic biological research on the aging process.

An additional $800,000 of Breakthroughs in Gerontology Awards of $200,000 each were given to scientists at the Mayo Clinic, The Burnham Institute, University of California, Berkeley and the University of Washington.

In 2008, Glenn Awards will be increased to $60,000 each and be given throughout the year from nominations made by an anonymous committee of scientists, assembled in collaboration with the American Federation for Aging Research (www.afar.org).
