National Dental Insurer Helps Provide Care for More Than 3,900 Children and Adults in Need

HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 13 -- More than 3,900 children and adults with minimal or no insurance received nearly $600,000 in free dental services during 2009, thanks to national insurer, United Concordia Dental.

"Nationally, more than 108 million children and adults do not have dental coverage," said Sharon Muscarella, United Concordia Dental's senior vice president of sales and chief marketing officer. "Our company is committed to partnering with the communities we serve. Helping provide free dental care to those in need is just one example of our corporate commitment in action."

United Concordia Dental works with a variety of community partners -- dentists, dental clinics, community organizations and dental hygiene schools -- to bring free dental care to people in need. In 2009, the national dental insurer held 69 programs in locations such as Phoenix; Atlanta; Baltimore; Philadelphia and Arlington, Texas. The company plans to increase the number of these outreach programs in 2010 to at least 70.

"These programs provide free dental care ranging from exams and cleanings to fillings and X-rays," said Woodrow Greene, community outreach coordinator for United Concordia Dental. "The cornerstone of our success is an ability to build partnerships. With the help of our partners, we are raising awareness of oral health and providing much-needed dental care in underserved communities."

In 2009, United Concordia Dental partnered with a number of organizations to provide free services for those in need. They include parent company, Highmark Inc.; Davis Vision; the Arizona Dental Foundation; the State of Georgia; Pittsburgh Pirates; Arizona Diamondbacks; Baltimore Orioles; and Texas Rangers.
