Erie Insurance was among 52 employers that received the Best Employers forHealthy Lifestyles award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the NationalBusiness Group on Health's (NBGH) Institute on the Costs and Health Effects ofObesity. Erie Insurance received a Gold award for its Healthy Directionsprogram. This is the second time Erie has received an award.

Erie Insurance's worksite wellness program, Healthy Directions, wasestablished to provide employees with the means to lead healthier lives. Awide range of wellness education and health management programs are availableto employees in 23 locations who voluntarily participate. These includelunchtime and after-hours exercise classes, indoor and outdoor walkingprograms, corporate discounts to fitness facilities, lunch and learn programs,and workday stretch breaks.

Now in its fourth year, the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awardsacknowledge and reward those employers that recognize the urgent need toimprove their workers' health, productivity and quality of life. Theunderlying goal of the program is to serve as a catalyst to encourage allemployers to take action.
Winners of the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards were honoredin one of three categories: Platinum, for established programs with measurableoutcomes; Gold, for creating cultural and environmental changes that supportemployees who have made a commitment to long-term behavior changes; andSilver, for those employers who have launched significant programs or servicesto promote living a healthier lifestyle.
