Did you know that you can't smell if you're asleep? That might be a goodthing for the parents of the kid with the stinkiest sneakers in America. Hebeat out several other contestants from across the country based on wear,look and overall stench. And this was no ordinary competition. The judges'panel included a NASA scientist known as "Master Sniffer" and a world leadingexpert on the psychology of smell, who, yes...sampled each shoe beforeproclaiming the winner!

Now in its 33rd year, the Annual National Odor-Eaters Rotten SneakerContestSM is the ultimate test of just how offensive sneakers can get withoutintervention. On Tuesday, March 18, eight children from Las Cruces, NM;Branchville, NJ; Flushing, MI; Livermore, CA; Barre, VT; Newnan, GA; EagleRiver, AK and Tooele, UT convened at The Capital Pavilion Building inMontpelier, Vermont in a tongue and foot competition. The winner of theGolden Sneaker Award trophy received $2500 as well as a trip to New York Cityand a MUCH needed supply of Odor-Eaters(R) products.
