Hospital cites strong employee support in choosing Custom Software Systems' electronic medical record solution.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Muenster Memorial Hospital, a Critical Access Hospital located in North Texas serving a bi-county area north of Denton, Texas, has selected Custom Software Systems' ChartSmart Electronic Medical Record as Muenster's EMR solution, Michael Kent, Muenster CEO/Administrator announced today.

According to Kent, the hospital's decision was the result of a painstaking two-year selection process, an evaluation that narrowed to three different EMR products. "Ultimately, the strong employee support for ChartSmart helped us make the decision," said Kent. "Our clinicians liked the natural flow of the charting that ChartSmart provided."

A former head of Muenster's radiology department, Kent acknowledged the importance of clinical acceptance to EMR implementation. "Strong initial buy-in by key users is vital to success," he said.

Certified as 2011/2012 compliant by Drummond Group, an ONC-ATCB, ChartSmart will allow the hospital to meet meaningful use guidelines to qualify for federal stimulus funds.* Kent pointed out that ChartSmart will also provide strategic support for one of the hospital's top priorities—Muenster's swing bed program, which deploys skilled nursing and therapy to fast-track the recovery of patients who have undergone surgeries such as hip and knee replacements.

"We liked the access ChartSmart gave to all the parties involved—now the therapists can see what the nursing staff is doing, and the doctors can keep up with patients' conditions, whether they're in the clinic or at the ER."

ChartSmart was created by front-line caregivers—nurses and nurse-programmers—for real-world ease and effectiveness. "This is the one EMR that conforms to the way clinicians work, not the other way around," said Custom Software President DeWitt Rhaly. "The intuitiveness is built in, so that busy staffers have fast access to all the information they need." For facilities using ChartSmart, that quick access has translated into greater accuracy, as well as a savings of up to 20 minutes per day per nurse in documentation time.

For even greater ease, Muenster is implementing ChartSmart for iPad use, Kent noted. "It's a cost-effective solution that allowed us to eliminate bulky laptops from the nurses' carts."
