MINNEAPOLIS, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- mPay™ Gateway today announced more than 800 physicians have signed on for the company's patient payment system in the first quarter of 2010, which ended March 31. New physician customers are from facilities throughout the U.S., including MedExpress Urgent Care, Parkview Health, Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance and Gastroenterology Associates.

"As cost shifting to patients continues to accelerate, we're helping physicians address this challenge by improving efficiencies throughout their revenue cycle management process," said John Wallace, senior vice president, mPay Gateway. "Physicians are taking note and recognizing that there is a simple way to secure patient payments."

mPay Gateway's software enables health care providers to secure payment authorization before a patient leaves the office. The patient's card is not charged until the provider knows the exact amount to collect. The system provides patients with a transparent billing process, while physicians dramatically reduce receivables, bad debt and patient statement costs.

Based in Morgantown, W.V., MedExpress Urgent Care operates 43 full-service walk-in clinics in Colorado, Florida, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Since MedExpress is offering urgent care services and may only see patients once—as patients typically have a primary care physician for ongoing care—the facility needed a better way to address patient billing and collection at the point of service and selected mPay Gateway.

mPay Gateway also saw increased momentum through its sales partners. Allscripts signed Parkview Health based in Fort Wayne, Ind., who will use Payerpath Patient Payment Assurance powered by mPay Gateway. Parkview Health is a not-for-profit, community-based health system serving a northeast Indiana population of more than 820,000 in 19 locations. Parkview specializes in family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics.

Additionally, Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, representing nearly 50 physicians, and Gastroenterology Specialists, representing more than 40 physicians, purchased the mPay Gateway software through Fifth Third Processing Solutions, a full service payment solutions provider and financial services partner to mPay Gateway.

"Our clients are looking for a solution to the changing health care payment market," said Donald Boeding, group president, Fifth Third Processing Solutions. "mPay Gateway is an excellent opportunity for Fifth Third Processing Solutions to offer an innovative patient payment option for our health care business clients."
