WASHINGTON, July 15 Steele will outline a unifying set of core Republican principles for health care reform, spelling out what Republicans are for and what they are against while seeking to correct common myths about what President Obama claims his health care plan would do for ordinary Americans.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee has already begun work on a health care reform bill and the Senate Finance Committee is preparing its own version. President Obama has called on Congress to pass a health care reform measure before the August recess. Steele will offer the Republican party alternative.

Steele was elected RNC chairman in January 2009, the first African American to hold the post. He was formerly Lieutenant Governor of Maryland from 2003 to 2007. At the 2004 Republican Convention, Lt Gov Steele gave the Republican response to Barack Obama's keynote speech to the Democratic Convention.

Steele was the Republican candidate to the US Senate in 2006 and subsequently became chairman of GOPAC, a political action committee that helps fund state and local Republican campaigns and is responsible for the training of future Republican candidates. A lawyer, he is a partner in the Washington DC office of the international law firm Dewey and LeBoeuf.
