FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J., Jan. 10 Medco HealthSolutions, Inc., (NYSE: MHS) today announced that it has been awarded URAC'sDrug Therapy Management (DTM) Accreditation for its clinical management andmember engagement programs that improve pharmacy care and prescription drugsafety. The programs that earned accreditation include the Medco TherapeuticResource Centers(R) that provide patients with access to specialistpharmacists trained in specific chronic and complex conditions, as well as thecompany's call center and front-end pharmacies.
In October 2007, URAC, an independent evaluator of health care quality,also awarded Medco its inaugural Pharmacy Benefit Management Accreditation,which recognized that Medco is clinically focused and meets quality standardsfor consumer protection and empowerment.
Medco, one of only four PBMs to have been awarded both URACaccreditations, is pioneering the use of specialist pharmacists to focus ondiabetes, cardiovascular disease, gastro-intestinal disorders,psychological/neurological conditions, hematology/oncology, and pulmonaryconditions, such as asthma.

Medco completed the rollout of the Medco Therapeutic Resource Centers lastyear, culminating three years of development and the process of trainingspecialist pharmacists in specific chronic and complex conditions. In theareas of pharmacy safety, Medco highlighted its Concurrent Drug UtilizationReview, Retrospective Drug Utilization Review and RationalMed(R) PatientSafety Solutions to URAC. The programs aim to overcome gaps in care that leadto adverse drug events, such as drug-drug and drug-disease interactions.

In November, URAC named Medco as a finalist in its first-ever BestPractices in Consumer Empowerment and Protection Awards for its DiabetesTherapeutic Resource Centers' efforts to reduce potentially dangerous errorswith syringes and other diabetes supplies.
Also recognized in the Best Practices Awards was the Medco My RxChoices(R), prescription savings tool that helps members find lower-costalternatives for the medications they take on an ongoing basis.
