"Mayo Clinic has provided hope and solutions for tens of thousands of Canadians over the past 90 years. We look forward to the opportunity to extend our expertise to Canadians through the MyCare offering," says David Hayes, M.D., medical director of the International Office at Mayo Clinic. "Our Canadian patients, just like those from the U.S. and other parts of the world, tell us that they appreciate our team approach, the breadth of our knowledge and expertise, and our efficiency. They entrust their care to Mayo Clinic because they are able to find answers and peace of mind. It is our honor and privilege to provide timely, high-quality care to over a half million patients each year, in virtually every subspecialty of medicine."

Many Canadian patients pay their Mayo Clinic bills out of pocket. "We are particularly pleased that this option will allow others to experience Mayo Clinic when they need us most — at the same time reducing the financial burden they may incur," says Dr. Hayes. "The remote second opinion, or 'eConsult,' provides the foundation for the MyCare offering. It will allow people to access Mayo Clinic expertise remotely, in some cases perhaps precluding their need to travel to Mayo Clinic for care. For those for whom in-person care is deemed appropriate or necessary, the MyCare program also offers that option.

"To most Canadians, Mayo Clinic is synonymous with excellence in health care," says Jim Viccars, president and CEO of ADI. "ADI is honored to be partnered with Mayo Clinic, which combines compassionate and efficient health care with the best in medical technology; the latest procedures and treatments; and modern, exceptionally well-managed facilities."

Mayo Clinic enjoys many long-standing relationships with patients and providers in Canada. Canadians have been traveling to Mayo Clinic for care since the 1920s. In most cases, Mayo Clinic doesn't require a physician referral.
