Max Domi encourages people to join the cause and donate as he shaves his beard in support of type 1 diabetes research

TORONTO, July 12, 2017 /CNW/ - Max Domi, has launched a new GoFundMe campaign in support of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Titled Max Domi's #FundRazor for Diabetes,
the campaign is asking fans to join the cause and donate online as he shaves his beard in support of T1D research. The Shaving Ceremony is set to preview via Instagram live stream on Wednesday July 12 at 5:30 p.m. Tune in to Instagram @max to follow along. A recap video will be posted on maxdomi.com following the event. Domi is looking to raise $25,000 and will be matching every dollar donation up to $10,000 on his #FundRazor for Diabetes GoFundMe page with all contributions going towards the JDRF Revolution Ride to Defeat Diabetes.

"The diagnosis of type 1 diabetes at age 12 was life changing for me," say Domi. "Being a professional athlete has now given me the platform to support those living with the disease and let them know I'm in their corner. Every day is a challenge, so if I can share my story to help inspire others to go after their goals and live remarkable lives, it's worth it."

Domi is dedicated to working with youth affected by diabetes to share his own story and how he manages the disease as a professional athlete. An inspiration to the diabetes community, Domi has made a career out of shedding common stereotypes, and now his beard, in support of T1D research.

Fans can visit Max Domi's #FundRazor for Diabetes GoFundMe page to learn more and make a donation for a chance to win prize giveaways:

There are more than 300,000 Canadians living with T1D.1 Nationally, the average incidence rate has been growing at an estimated 5.1 per cent annually – higher than the global average.2

T1D is an autoimmune disease that occurs when the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that make insulin.

"On behalf of the 300,000 Canadians affected by type 1 diabetes, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Max Domi for building awareness and raising funds for this life-altering condition," said Dave Prowten, JDRF Canada president and CEO. "Max's generous contribution will help JDRF continue to support the most promising research into the cure, treatment and prevention of type 1 diabetes."

The initiative and GoFundMe page is a great opportunity to engage the public in a playful way while raising awareness about a serious issue that affects many.
