Mark Weideman Promoted to Vice President, Government Affairs

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 23 Mark Weideman has beenpromoted to vice president, government affairs, Blue Shield of Californiaannounced today. In his new role, Weideman will oversee the not-for-profithealth plan's national, state and local lobbying and political activities. Hewill continue to report to Tom Epstein, Blue Shield's vice president, publicaffairs.

Since joining Blue Shield in 2006 as government affairs director, Weidemanhas played a significant role in Blue Shield's public policy efforts and beenan active participant in this year's health reform debate in Sacramento.

"Mark has transformed Blue Shield's government affairs operation throughhis excellent judgment, strong negotiating skills, relentless energy, andexceptional relationships on both sides of the aisle," said Epstein.

Prior to joining Blue Shield, Weideman oversaw the lobbying and politicalactivities for AT&T California. He previously was a practicing attorney inthe litigation department of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and practicedpolitical and healthcare law with the Sacramento firm Wilke, Fleury, Hoffelt,Gould and Birney.

Weideman received his law degree from the University of California,Hastings College of Law and a bachelor's degree with honors from theUniversity of California at Berkeley.
