Malaria No More congratulates President-elect Barack Obama on his victory last night and looks forward to working with the new Administration and the new Congress in continuing the global fight against malaria. The United States has been a leader in the fight and we know that both President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Biden are dedicated to ensuring that our country remains strong in its commitment to ending malaria.

The new President and Congress will face serious economic challenges when assuming office. They will be asked to make tough decisions based on return on investment. From an economic, humanitarian and diplomatic perspective, there is perhaps no greater return on investment than funding efforts to defeat malaria. President-elect Obama recognized this when he endorsed the global malaria community's goal of ending malaria deaths by 2015 and put forth a solid framework to ensure that we not only continue to make progress but, ultimately, eliminate malaria across the globe.

As chief co-sponsor of the historic PEPFAR legislation passed last July, Vice President-elect Biden knows the enormous impact this bill will have on saving the lives of the millions of people needlessly dying from malaria. It is critical that the new Congress takes the steps needed to ensure that the promise of PEPFAR funding is achieved and we are certain that Vice President-elect Biden will continue to support the life-saving objectives of this legislation. We also salute Senator McCain for a hard fought campaign and for his commitment to ending malaria. We look forward to continuing to work with him as the U.S. Senate moves to fully fund PEPFAR. In addition, the President's Malaria Initiative has demonstrated significant results in a short period of time. PMI's work is making a real difference and must continue.

Together, with our new President and Congress, we can be victorious in the battle against this tragic disease. This is malaria's moment and we cannot let it pass. In the next few years, we can eliminate malaria and save millions of children's lives.
