In thanking the Congresswoman, LCA President & CEO Laurie Fenton-Ambrose noted that momentum is building for a new plan of action on lung cancer. "For the first time in history, advocates, public health and public policy leaders are coming together to call for a more compassionate and comprehensive research funding strategy to address all aspects of lung cancer. On behalf of the entire lung cancer community, we thank Congresswoman Moore for adding her voice to this powerful chorus of national leaders," said Fenton-Ambrose.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among men and women. It claims more lives each year than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney, pancreas, and melanoma cancers -- combined. Lung cancer's 5-year survival rate remains at 15%, and the majority of those diagnosed with lung cancer are former smokers and never smokers. In Wisconsin, 2,910 will die of lung cancer this year alone.

Congresswoman Moore said, "Lung cancer is responsible for more deaths than any other cancer. It's long past time that policy recognize this and move us forward in the fight against lung cancer."
