The LBNH network has successfully tested electronic links -- using secureWeb-based technology -- between Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, MillerChildren's Hospital, Talbert Medical Group, Memorial Healthcare IPA, andWellPoint Health Plan. These organizations now have the technical capacity tosecurely share clinical data, including lab results and medication histories.It is anticipated that the interoperable system will be fully operational bythe end of the first quarter 2009.

As a national model for electronic health data sharing, the LBNH hasgained valuable insights on how providers and consumers view the use of healthinformation technology and plans to share these findings with President-electObama's White House Office of Health Reform.
"Many of the questions outlined in President-elect Obama's guide forcommunity discussions now being held around the country already have beenanswered by community leaders here in Long Beach and Los Angeles County duringthe process of developing our Network," said Laura Landry, executive directorof LBNH. "Los Angeles County is the most populous in the nation, so we'reconfident that President-elect Obama and HHS Secretary-designate Tom Daschlewill be interested in what we have learned."
