Lilly to Sponsor Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 24 Eli Lilly and Company(NYSE: LLY) today announced its sponsorship of the Congressional Black CaucusFoundation's 38th Annual Legislative Convention (ALC), set for September 24 --27, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

Lilly's sponsorship marks the first time a company has committed thefunding required -- $500,000 -- to be designated as ALC's premier sponsor.

ALC is an important annual gathering of African Americans focusing onpublic policy and legislative issues impacting their community. The four-dayconference features dozens of forums on economic development, criminaljustice, public health and education, as well as general sessions, exhibits,health and job fairs, book signings and networking opportunities.

ALC typically draws more than 18,000 people, including many executives,state and local elected officials, celebrities, sports personalities, nationaland local media, and the 42 members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Elsie L. Scott, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of theCongressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF), said the Foundation deeplyappreciates and acknowledges the tremendous investment that Lilly hascommitted to the organization's mission.

"Our sincere gratitude is extended to Eli Lilly and Company for itssustained commitment to the work of the CBCF," Dr. Scott said. "We lookforward to its continued support as we work to advance African Americans andpeople of African descent towards equity in economics, health and education."

Derica W. Rice, Lilly's senior vice president and chief financial officer,said the company is "extremely proud" to be the first-ever premier sponsor ofALC. "The 2008 ALC will serve as a capstone to another banner year for theCBCF and we are honored to support the Foundation's efforts around publichealth, education, leadership development and many other roles that they playin improving the lives of African Americans," Rice said.

In addition to its premier sponsorship, Lilly's new "Working Together forBetter Health" booth will provide useful information and resources toconference attendees, including A Healthy You! -- America's Guide to HealthyLiving. A Healthy You! is a 148-page pocket-sized guide that providesinformation and resources on how to lead a healthy life and prevent chronicdiseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

"Whether these answers are in the form of drugsthat treat some of the world's most urgent needs, disease management programsthat improve patient care, or the general health care information found in ourbook, our goal is to help people live better lives."
