LEE COUNTY, FL, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ - Over 830 staff members are living healthier, racing to wellness in Lee County School District's newest fitness challenge. The 322 mile virtual race to Key West, Florida, is the district's first motivational online challenge and it's proving successful with less work from the district's one wellness coordinator, Lisa Brown.

Lee County School District has delivered fitness challenges for three years, counting the steps that reduce risk of obesity, CVD, diabetes and hypertension. Previously, Lisa Brown tracked health challenges for 10,000 staff using paper, spreadsheets, and databases. Employees loved her programs, but the volume of information swelled. Lee County School District worked with CoreHealth Technologies of Kelowna, Canada, to create a virtual challenge website and manage all the data in one place.

With the district's new interactive website, staff immediately see their personal and team's ranking on a virtual race map. As teams pass milestones, inspirational messages pop up and create entries into prize draws. Using communication tools on the site, staff share their stories and successes, connecting with others. Real-time competition, mini goals, and communication are proving very inspirational. Employees have already logged over 200 million steps in the race, which started October 6th.

"Employees love the instant feedback and increased competition of our online challenges," comments Lisa Brown. "There are other benefits. Internet tracking eliminated the influx of reporting email and weekends of data entry that were once typical. While staff race to health, I'm free to set up health screenings, immunizations, and more exciting online challenges, like our Lighten Up Lee Schools weight loss challenge starting January." District programming costs are covered by an annual stipend from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida.

CoreHealth Technologies websites help inspire wellness in organizations large and small. Regional employers like Lee County School District, as well as national and multinational organizations including Fresno C-Fit Wellness, Vermont State, BC Hydro, and Petro Canada are delivering interactive challenges for fitness, weight loss, nutrition, stress management, and other health concerns, reducing medical costs while increasing the standard of living for all their employees.
