In response to membership need, AAP will offer content online for whenever/wherever access for 60,000-plus pediatricians

NEW YORK, Oct. 15 -- Impelsys, a global leader in electronic content delivery solutions, today announced that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a leading society publisher and professional organization to 60,0000 pediatricians, has solidified its e-book strategy with iPublishCentral, an industry-leading electronic content delivery solution used by more than 350 publishers worldwide.  Launching in early 2010, AAP will initially offer 35 books from its adolescent health, neonatal, infectious disease and primary care collections online for purchase in digital format with a multi-level offering to both individuals and institutions such as libraries, hospitals and medical schools.  iPublishCentral is an easy-to-implement, cost-effective, self-service solution that allows publishers to market, distribute and monetize traditional print content through electronic channels.

“AAP has been an active publisher of electronic journal and book content and has seen technology drive significant changes in how clinicians search and consume information.  We felt that the next step was to implement an e-Book strategy,” said Maureen DeRosa, AAP Director of Marketing and Publications. “The iPublishCentral platform is flexible and easily accessible to our members and supports the demand for immediate access to medical information.”

AAP collections and individual titles will be available by subscription or by per-book purchase, accessible with a single login.  Along with member pediatricians, hospitals, libraries, medical schools and health organizations will also have access to AAP’s digital library.  Although retaining the look and feel of a print book, these e-Books will have enhanced electronic features including search, bookmarking and user personalization. AAP and its member authors will also be able to promote their titles using iPublishWidget, a viral marketing tool that enables both publishers and authors to promote and market books on the Internet and social Web sites such as Facebook. iPublishWidget enhances visibility, sustains interest and enables sales conversions for any title.

“With iPublishCentral, AAP will open up access to its members, enhance its reach to pediatricians and also make its content available online to leading institutions and libraries,” said Sameer Shariff, CEO of Impelsys. “We aim to support publishers and readers in a rapidly changing industry by increasing reach and improving the accessibility of information.”

Leading titles such as The Red Book Atlas, a reference for infectious diseases, Berkowitz Pediatrics, a textbook for primary care, and The Pediatric Nutrition Handbook, a guide for the latest evidence-based guidelines on feeding healthy infants and children, will be available for digital download.

Impelsys will hold live demonstrations of iPublishCentral at its booth (Hall 8, #L985) during the Frankfurt Book Fair, October 14-18, 2009.
