Dr. Jacobs, who has offices in Manhattan and Mount Kisco, NY, has been providing comprehensive clinical care locally, nationally and internationally to women and men with neuroendocrine and neurobehavioral conditions since 1995. Through his blog, he hopes to reach out to more people with these conditions and address their concerns about the effect of hormones on the brain and behavior.

"There really is a strong need to bring more attention to this field, which blends elements from Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry and Endocrinology. Right now, there is a sizable subset of women and men whose medical needs are not being met, but who don't know the options available," said Dr. Jacobs. "The purpose of the blog will be to disseminate clinical, research and educational information of interest to these people, and serve as a sounding board to begin conversations, dispel false rumors and provide guidance on obtaining help."

In addition to the link above, Dr. Jacobs' blog can also be accessed through his website at www.neuroendocrinology.org or www.alanjacobsmd.com. On the site, Dr. Jacobs has posted a number of interesting clinical cases. His goal is to reassure people with these conditions that compassionate help and effective treatments are available. The site will publish a quarterly newsletter with key clinical insights, research news and links to allied sites of interest to patients and medical professionals.

Dr. Jacobs has diagnosed and successfully treated many patients with hormonal conditions, including catamenial epilepsy (seizures occurring in phase with the menstrual cycle), emotional disorders brought on by premenstrual and menopausal influences, anxiety resulting from late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and a range of disorders involving the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland.

Dr. Jacobs is also an expert on disorders affecting the mind and memory, including Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, cognitive and behavioral disorders resulting from traumatic brain injury, temporal lobe epilepsy, attention deficit disorder and more.
