Univita Health will provide an integrated approach to home-based care and support.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The launch of a new company aimed at promoting and supporting a home-centered approach to independent aging was announced today. Univita Health is introducing new programs and innovating existing services to help individuals maintain independence at home as they age.
"Due to falling birthrates and increased life expectancy, the ratio of people over age 65 to those of working age is rising rapidly," said L. Ben Lytle, Chairman of Univita. "This population shift presents enormous challenges in how to provide and pay for the health care of an older population by a smaller workforce. The only solution is to deliver care to seniors in their homes with fewer professionals."
Univita was created to address this opportunity by transforming the home into a place to age safely, monitor and receive care, and live an entire life with dignity.
"The majority of health care spending for the aging population goes towards institutional care such as hospitals and nursing homes," said Hugh Lytle, President and Chief Executive Officer of Univita. "By extending an individual's ability to maintain their life and care at home, we can improve quality of life and lower costs."
In addition to directly servicing in-home care needs such as home health care, infusion therapy and providing home medical equipment, Univita is developing a virtual marketplace for individuals to find a range of associated products and services. Univita is also applying unique technologies to improve communication between patients, families, caregivers and physicians.
Univita plans to assist individuals and families by providing personalized assessments and decision support tools including financial planning and support. As part of this strategy, Univita has merged with Minnesota-based Long Term Care Group -- a leader in long term care insurance services including administration and underwriting, clinical assessments, claims processing and care management.
"We are thrilled to be the first leg in the Univita stool," said Peter Goldstein, Long Term Care Group President and Co-founder. "Since we started the company 12 years ago, we have been an industry thought leader on care management and long term care insurance, both of which are key components to realizing the Univita vision."
Long Term Care Group administers 20% of the long term insurance policies in the country. Its clients include major multi-line insurance companies and all of the leading Long Term Care carriers. Long Term Care Group has 1200 employees and 27,000 cases under active management.
Bruce Baude, Chief Executive Officer of Long Term Care Group noted, "Our seasoned management team will help Univita integrate the acquisitions we have in the pipeline and our shared services of Corporate Finance, Human Resources, and IT will provide the perfect infrastructure and foundation to build out the Univita platform."
"We are very excited to formally announce the launch of Univita and mark our first major milestone in the merger with Long Term Care Group," said Hugh Lytle. "This is a significant step towards our vision of establishing an entirely new way to think about how we support aging and rely on the home as the center of care in this country."
