TAMPA, Fla., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The leader in spinal health care, Laser Spine Institute (LSI), will appear on the syndicated talk show "The Doctors," from Stage 29 and CBS Television Distribution, to tell the story of LSI patient Kate Gookin's incredible journey with innovative, minimally invasive spine surgery. The episode airs May 19th (check www.thedoctorstv.com for local listings), featuring Kate alongside LSI's chairman of surgery and founder, Dr. James St. Louis, who performed Kate's procedure just two-and-a-half weeks before the show. Former LSI patient Jodi Soper, who underwent surgery in 2007, will also share her experience during the show.

Dr. St. Louis explains, "We are proud to show on a national stage how our process help patients across the country. We see this as a true milestone for the company, representative of our mission to educate back and neck pain sufferers about the incredible advances in spine procedures."

Kate describes to the audience that prior to surgery she suffered from chronic back and neck pain for 20 years, affecting her quality of life. Finally, Kate sought treatment at Laser Spine Institute where she was diagnosed with multiple bone spurs, a painful ailment that causes pinched nerves. Dr. St. Louis performed an endoscopic, outpatient procedure to remove the bone growths. Footage from Kate's procedure depicts how the doctor uses an endoscope, a tube the size of an ink pen, along with laser technology and other small surgical instruments to treat the problem area.

Kate's procedure required an incision of less than one inch and was easily covered with a small band-aid. The sight of her barely visible scar completely amazes the audience, especially when compared to traditional open back surgery's 5-6 inch incision. Dr. St. Louis narrates how Kate's procedure required no hospital stay and how these procedures typically last about an hour, incredibly the same amount of time it takes to watch the program.

Kate's compelling story, relayed in front of a live studio audience just 16 days post-surgery, demonstrates the life-changing ability of LSI's minimally invasive spine surgery. In the same episode, Jodi recounts her own success story.  At three years post-surgery, she is enjoying a healthy and active life.
