ATLANTA, March 2 Leading the industry in providing high-performance, energy efficient display products for healthcare applications, LG Electronics' 2010 HDTVs and monitors introduced this week at the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference and Exhibition feature added certifications and compliance ratings specifically for the healthcare industry.

As hospitals upgrade from older CRT sets to flat-panel HDTVs, LG's product line is evolving to exceed regulatory guidelines for products in healthcare environments -- from Trade Agreement Act (TAA) compliance to Underwriters Laboratories (UL) "Hospital Grade" certification to ENERGY STARŪ ratings.

For the patient room environment, LG Electronics has introduced UL Hospital Grade listed HDTV LCDs and HD LCD monitors. This certification validates that all LG HDTVs used in hospital patient rooms are manufactured to meet the stringent UL Hospital Grade specifications, ensuring the safest possible product for the in-room environment.

Designed specifically for the hospital patient room, the LG3DCH series HDTVs are UL Hospital Grade listed as are the two lines of HD LCD monitors on display at the show (M3703CCBH and M4224CCBH).

"From hospitals to patient rehab facilities, LG's products are designed specifically with the necessary qualifications and compliance standards for their environment - ensuring we are providing our customers with safer and more durable and energy efficient products," said Tim Wright, director of LG Healthcare Commercial Products, LG Electronics USA, Inc. "Adhering to these standards allows us to provide an even higher level of service to our customers so they can focus on what matters most - their patients."

Energy Efficiency

Helping reduce overall energy costs for healthcare and long-term care institutions, LG is also showcasing ENERGY STAR rated monitors (model W2242TE-BF) and Long Term Care products for use in patient rooms as well as waiting room and nursing station settings.

Featuring technology such as Power Saving modes, LG's LG3DCH series HDTVs provide added energy savings for hospitals looking to upgrade technology while managing energy costs. Additionally, LG's Dynamic Power Saving modes provide automatic optimal picture settings with minimum power consumption for increased energy savings.

Also helping healthcare facilities reduce energy costs, LG's SmartVine(TM) monitors allow up to 11 nurses, administrative staff and/or doctors to share the same PC. The software is able to divide a computer's resources into 11 independent sessions so that all users can share the processing power of a single PC, maximizing the bandwidth to the fullest extent.

Using one main PC to run all 11 SmartVine monitors enables consumers to save on the cost of energy used that extra PCs would have consumed, reducing noise and generating less heat. By reducing the number of PCs needed for a multi-user setup, the LG SmartVine solution also helps minimize E-waste.

Trade Agreement Act Certification

TAA Certification is required for U.S. government purchases, which include Veterans Administration hospitals and military bases. The Act requires contractors to certify that each end product meets country-of-origin requirements. The TAA also requires that end products from designated countries be treated the same as U.S.-made products for government procurement purposes, and prohibits the acquisition of end products from other, non-designated countries.

By receiving this certification, LG Electronics ensures that the W2242TE-BF and W1942TE-BF monitors on display can be purchased by the U.S. government for use in healthcare facilities such as veterans' hospitals and on-base medical treatment centers.
