Alexander joined Emory in 2000, managing the legal affairs of the University and of Emory Healthcare, comprised of three fully-owned hospitals, a 1500-physician practice group and several affiliates. Alexander, a former partner at King & Spalding LLP, a prominent Atlanta law firm, also served for over a decade in the United States Attorney's office in Atlanta, first as an assistant and later as the presidentially-appointed U.S. Attorney.

"Kent adds to our leadership team a rare combination of government and health-related legal knowledge and strategic acumen, accumulated over two decades of private practice, his service as U.S. Attorney, and most recently at one of the nation's most prestigious university health systems," said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "His judgment and breadth of experience in healthcare will be critical as the company continues to expand our market presence, especially in light of our proposed merger with Eclipsys."

Allscripts and Eclipsys Corporation announced on June 9, 2010 a definitive agreement to merge, creating a clear leader in healthcare information technology, with the most comprehensive solution offering for healthcare organizations of every size and setting. The merger is pending.

Alexander will manage the day-to-day legal affairs of the Company, including contracts, partnerships, employment matters, litigation, and intellectual property. As a member of the executive leadership team, he will also add his unique perspective to corporate strategy.

Alexander was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, which includes Atlanta, by President Bill Clinton in 1994. He served as the region's head law enforcement official through late 1997, overseeing 65 federal prosecutors who represented the government in criminal and civil cases. Between 1992 and 1994, and again from 1997 to 2000, Alexander practiced law with King & Spalding, where he was a partner concentrating on government-related and healthcare matters, and led the firm's technology practice group.

"I am excited to join the Allscripts team at what I believe is a unique moment in healthcare," Alexander said. "I am a strong believer in the solutions that Allscripts provides and its core mission of creating a connected system of health that brings patients higher quality, safer and more cost effective care."

Active in the community, Alexander has earned the Department of Justice National Volunteer Service Award and been appointed to state pro-bono leadership posts by Georgia Governors consecutively since 1999, including the Georgia State Ethics Commission. Alexander also sits on the board of the American Jewish Committee where he is a past president, and he continues to advise Hands On Atlanta, a 37,000-member not-for-profit organization he co-founded. His wife, Diane, is a practicing physician.

An Atlanta native, Alexander earned his law degree from the University of Virginia, School of Law, and a bachelor's degree from Tufts University.
