July 11 Nomination Deadline Nears for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Annual Claude Pepper Community Service Awards

DETROIT, June 20 There is still time before the July 11deadline to nominate deserving Michigan senior citizen advocates for the 18thannual Claude Pepper Awards sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

The awards are presented to two individuals whose professional orvolunteer efforts have significantly improved the lives of Michigan seniors,particularly those whose access to health care services may be hindered byphysical, mental, financial or geographical limitations. The awards are namedfor the late Florida Sen. Claude Pepper, one of the principal sponsors of theOlder Americans Act of 1965 and a major force in strengthening Social Securityand Medicare.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Senior Advisory Council EducationCommittee will review all Claude Pepper Award nominations. Winners eachreceive a $1,000 donation for their respective nonprofit organizations.Runners-up will receive certificates of merit.
