Both musicians have a personal connection to lupus. Julian's childhood friend, Lucy Vodden, recently passed away at the age of 46 after a long battle with lupus, and James' grandmother, Lucy Cook, has lived with lupus for many years. Vodden was the subject of a drawing Julian created as a child which inspired his father to write the memorable Beatles hit song, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

"We thank Julian Lennon and James Scott Cook for their generous support, which not only will help fund lupus research, but also will go a long way to help raise awareness and draw international attention to this perilous disease," said Sandra Raymond, LFA President and CEO. "The proceeds from the song will support LFA's comprehensive National Lupus Research Program, Bringing Down the Barriers, which addresses key barriers that have for decades obstructed progress of basic biomedical, clinical, epidemiological, behavioral, and translational lupus research. "
