John Martin, MD-Medical Director of Heart and Vascular Institute

ANNAPOLIS, Md., Aug. 11 As members of the recruiting committee, it is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of John Martin, MD as Medical Director of Anne Arundel Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Martin will provide leadership for the Heart and Vascular Program and collaborate with medical staff and hospital leadership on the implementation of the Heart and Vascular business plan. Dr. Martin was selected from a group of strong candidates based on his proven track record in developing the nationally recognized Vascular Center at AAMC.

Dr. Martin joined the AAMC medical staff in 1999 and has served on various hospital committees as well as the Strategic Planning Committee of the Board of Trustees. In 2000 he founded the Dare to C.A.R.E. Foundation which has provided free cardiovascular screenings to more than 30,000 individuals in the region. For the AAMC Vascular Center, he has developed a comprehensive quality and performance improvement program, training and education, multiple research initiatives and a dedicated vascular patient unit and OR team.

He received his BS from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He then completed medical school, his residency in surgery and a fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He is board certified in surgery and has additional specialty certifications in vascular surgery and critical care.

With Dr. Martin's leadership and our outstanding interdisciplinary Heart and Vascular team, we will continue to advance our Heart and Vascular Program and position AAMC as a regional referral center providing the highest quality care with the latest procedures and technology.

In his new role, John will be chairing a new Heart and Vascular Institute Advisory Board which will include representatives from administration, cardiology, vascular surgery and radiology to oversee the management and operation of the cardiovascular service line.
