Specially trained and certified Jewel-Osco pharmacists are now availableto administer both the needle-free and traditional flu vaccine by appointment,during regular pharmacy hours. Both vaccine types also will be available on awalk-in basis at the pharmacy. And, the pharmacy at Jewel-Osco will offerspecial flu vaccine clinics where appointments are not necessary.

"Flu immunization can play an important role in protecting the well-beingof healthy individuals as well as that of many members of the public who standat-risk of developing serious complications from the flu," said Jeff Bregar,RPh, manager, Jewel-Osco Pharmacy's Adult Immunization Program. "This fluseason, we're aiming to make it even easier for our customers to make healthychoices."
While the traditional flu shot is recommended for healthy adults,FluMist(R) presents another effective and convenient option. Anyone who isinterested in protecting their health is encouraged to protect themselvesagainst the flu. However the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)suggests that adults over 50, pregnant women, health care workers and childand senior caregivers get immunized.
According to CDC estimates, influenza is related to an average of 36,000deaths and 226,000 hospitalizations every year. Some researchers estimate thatinfluenza is responsible for up to 12 percent of all work absences due tosickness.
"There is no cure for the flu but it can be prevented with a simpleimmunization. By offering both immunization options at a convenient location,on the day of the week and time of day that works best for the customer,JEWEL-OSCO Pharmacy is working to remove common barriers to preventativehealth care," Bregar said.
