Jennie Finch Shares how to Fire up the Romance Despite the Demands of the Holidays
"It's been a crazy year with my practice and competition schedule, and then you add to that my husband's baseball practice and playing schedule and our active two-year-old. Every year we end up running around more than we relax, which leaves very little time for romance. My husband and I always look forward to the holidays as a time to reconnect with family, and most importantly with each other," said USA softball player and world champion Jennie Finch. "Even though our schedules as athletes may not be typical, trying to balance work and life - especially around the holidays - is something we share with most couples."
According to results from a recent survey of couples, 90 percent noted that they would like to be more intimate with their partner. Eight out of 10 couples feel so overwhelmed that they report feeling that intimacy has become more of a "to do" than a "to desire."
So what can couples do to keep the romance alive despite the roller-coaster schedule of holiday parties and family gatherings?
Experts say there are several things you can do to keep the romance alive - even during the holidays:
"With my hectic schedule, finding a birth control that I didn't have to worry about everyday was important to me," Jennie said. "I spoke with my doctor and she suggested I try Mirena(R). It's definitely been the best match for me. It's eliminated one more thing from my "to do" list. It leaves me freer to be a good wife and mom, and to enjoy the moments Casey and I find together."
Mirena (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is a removable intrauterine contraceptive (IUC) that is over 99% effective and helps couples keep life simple. It works for as long as you want, for up to five years. Yet, if you chose to have Mirena removed, you can try to become pregnant immediately. Mirena(R) won't cause significant weight gain and may also provide shorter, lighter periods.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION ABOUT MIRENA
Only you and your healthcare professional can decide if Mirena is right for you. Mirena does not protect against HIV or STDs. Candidates for Mirena have had a child, and do not have certain cancers or acute pelvic inflammatory disease. In rare cases, perforation or embedment may occur. Mirena may become completely or partially dislodged. In the rare event you think you're pregnant, contact your healthcare professional without delay. Ovarian cysts may occur and typically disappear. Changes in bleeding are common in the first few months followed by shorter, lighter periods.

-- Exchange Fewer Gifts: Given today's tough economy, make an agreement with your spouse to exchange fewer presents. Not only will this help you save money, but you may also find it leaves you with a little more time for romance. -- Be Creative With Your "To-Do" List: Instead of waiting in long lines, shop during dinner time when the stores are less crowded, or have your groceries delivered. Eliminating even one or two things from your long list could free up the time you need to focus on your partner. -- Spend Time Together Before The Party: It's okay to be fashionably late to the neighbor's annual holiday bash. Send the kids to a friend's or relative's house for a sleepover or arrange for the babysitter to come early. That way, you and your partner can enjoy extra time alone before, and even after the party. -- Give an Early Present: This year, forget the sweater. Instead, exchange intimate massages. It's a more romantic way to say, "I love you." -- Be Spontaneous: Whether you steal a kiss under hanging mistletoe or cozy up in front of the fire, it's important to give your partner something unexpected. Also consider a birth control method, like the intrauterine contraceptive Mirena(R), that is compatible with a busy lifestyle.
