HELENA, Ala., Nov. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- IBFCSM, an independent not-for-profit certification organization was founded
The CHCM credential focuses on the importance of leading safety and managing hazards. This management based safety-related credential would be appropriate for safety, health, and environmental managers, directors, or coordinators working in all industry groups. IBFCSM has issued 4,000 CHCM credentials since 1976. The Board would like to mark this milestone by waiving the CHCM Application Fee for any qualified candidate applying to sit for the CHCM. Qualified candidates must submit an online application by March 31, 2017. Candidates must pay the published examination fee. Please note that the Nebraska Safety Council periodically offers a CHCM Review & Exam Workshop for those wanting to review hazard control concepts and principles prior to sitting for the exam. Please access their website for additional information.
Candidates for certification must document eight (8) years of relevant experience and/or education. IBFCSM requires at least two-years of relevant experience regardless of educational level. CPSO credential holders must achieve a passing score on the challenging examination. All candidates must complete the online Application and have two persons aware of their professional fitness for certification, submit online Reference Evaluations. References can't be from family members, close friends, or subordinates. Please visit www.ibfcsm.org and access the Candidate Handbook which contains the current examination outlines and suggested study references. Each examination contains 100 to 120 multiple choice items. Each exam contains questions that require recall, recognition, critical thinking, and analysis of facts, information, and concepts/principles. To ensure the reliability and validity of all exams, IBFCSM adheres to the requirements of ANSI/ISO/IEC Standard 17024. Candidates may take a paper and pencil exam locally with an authorized proctor. Candidates may opt to take the exam remotely online through TesTrac/B-Virtual. There is an additional online exam fee of $100, which is paid by the candidate when registering with TesTrac.
IBFCSM offers voluntary self-study material but does not require any candidate to purchase any study resources to qualify for certification. Purchasing study materials or attending a review session does not ensure that an individual will pass the exam. Self-study material can help a candidate identify strengths or weaknesses. Please contact the Board to purchase the textbook: Introduction to Hazard Control Management (CRC Press 2013).
