IMPAC's Laboratory Professional of the Year program honors outstandinglaboratory professionals in both the anatomic pathology lab and clinical labwho make valuable contributions to the success of their laboratory operations,and who extend their contributions to benefit the broader medical facility andcommunity. These awards are part of IMPAC's celebration of National MedicalLaboratory Professionals Week, April 20-26, 2008.

Judith Thompson is recognized for her exceptional service to JeffersonRegional Medical Center throughout the past 19 years. A strong leader,Thompson was instrumental in the recent implementation of IMPAC's laboratoryinformation management system for anatomic pathology, PowerPath(R). Determinedto build a successful end product, Thompson diligently supervised systemchanges and staff training throughout the installation process, furtherimproving the efficiency of the lab, as well as staff morale.

Renowned for her contributions to process improvement, Janet McLean wasinstrumental in helping the Advanced Care & Treatment Medical Group, inRockford, Illinois achieve a zero deficiency COLA inspection in 2007, as wellas and obtain the 2007 Laboratory Excellence Award. A professional that setshigh standards for herself and others, McLean educated the entire staff on labsafety, as well as single-handedly authored the Quality Assurance and safetymanuals for the group.
