NEW YORK, Oct. 14 A new format and venue will offer guestsfresh perspectives on diabetes research and the psycho-social issuesassociated with the disease at the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation's7th New York Research Update, titled "Diabetes 2.0 - Harnessing NewTechnologies in Research and Treatment." The interactive conference, which isbeing underwritten by Bonnie Inserra and Larry Inserra, will be held onSaturday, October 25, 2008 at the Marriott Marquis, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Never before at this conference has such a wide range of issues been upfor discussion. World-renowned scientists from the Diabetes ResearchInstitute will present at the morning sessions, highlighting hot topics suchas stem cell research, bio-engineering and the global view of diabetesresearch.

Late morning and afternoon breakout sessions will offer a more intimatesetting and allow guests to select the material of most interest to them.Sessions will include content for all ages, featuring not-often-discussedissues such as transitioning from pediatric to adult care, dealing with the"Diabetes Police" and burnout, learning if type 1 diabetes can be prevented orwhat happens "When Diabetes Hits Home," among other topics.

During lunch, a panel of researchers, psychologists, bloggers and otherdiabetes experts will attempt to answer the question: Research News - Hype orHope? Audience interaction will be encouraged throughout the conference,which is being co-chaired by DRI Foundation board members Carolyn and MarcGoldfarb of New York City and Fran and John Luebs of Long Island.

Ticket price is $50 per person or $75 per family of four and includes acontinental breakfast, lunch, access to a host of diabetes exhibitors, and themorning and afternoon sessions.
