LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Stuntwoman, Leslie Hoffman (61), was one of
Her credits include working on Star Trek: DS9 and Voyager, Nightmare on Elm Street, M*A*S*H, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Remington Steele, CHiPs, The Naked Gun and many more popular shows and movies.
The film industry regularly employs stunt professionals to perform dangerous scenes that they feel are too risky for the principal actors. Falling off buildings & down stairs, being set on fire and being hit by cars are among a few activities in the daily lives of stunt professionals.
Hoffman was the first stuntwoman elected to the SAG Board of Directors in 1983 and during her time there, she advocated for more safety measures and fought discrimination for stuntwomen and people of color.
The Occupational Pension and Health Lawsuit filed by Ms. Hoffman, NO. CV 16-1530 R(AJW) had remained unresolved in the court system due to the 9th District court over-ruling the first lower Court Judge's decision. It is suspected due to this over-ruling plus an article that was written about her plight, SAG Health stripped Ms. Hoffman of her disability pension and demanded repayment for the years that they had already paid her. A second lawsuit was filed, No. CV 16-1530 R(AJW) when SAG Health violated ERISA Law, by not reviewing the taking away of her Disability Pension in a timely fashion.
Both were recently dismissed by Judge Manuel Real of the California US District Court, who has been well documented siding with SAG when Ed Asner and other SAG Members sued SAG demanding that a comprehensive report on how the SAG and AFTRA Pension and Health Plans would be merged. Ms. Hoffman appeals are underway.
Meanwhile, Ms. Hoffman is trying to make ends meet and is facing losing her home plus other financial difficulties that are the result of having lost her benefits.
Members of the stunt community have come together to support Ms. Hoffman by urging the public to pressure the Screen Actor's Guild Pension and Health Plan to reinstate Leslie Hoffman's benefits.
The information is on the form of Change.org petition demanding her benefits to be reinstated.
