No longer one of the country's most obese states, Louisiana is continuing to be a leader with innovative programs and new wellness strategies. "We are proud to break new ground," comments Executive Director Rudy Macklin, "This virtual challenge took what we had proven successful to a new level, bringing inspirational wellness right into the homes of our participants." Over 100,000 people have used Lighten Up since its inception, focusing on improving their diets, physical fitness, and nutrition.

In 2008, Lighten Up Louisiana launched an interactive community wellness website together with CoreHealth Technologies Inc from Kelowna, Canada. The site used inspirational team competitions and fun interactive tools to get citizens active. The focus of the program was weight loss; it offered tools for nutrition, weight reduction, physical activity and hydration. Communication tools allowed members to invite others and share their stories right on the site. Designed for accessibility and motivation, the program was a hit across age brackets.
So what's next? Louisiana teens are now using these same proven tools and adapting the look and feel to target teenage youth; they're even expanding functionality by adding challenge blogs, videos, and other inspirational content.
"We were pleased with the results of our 2008 online campaign; the positive feedback from participants was tremendous. With the enhancements our teen leaders came up with, 2009 will be even better" comments Rudy Macklin. The Louisiana youth program is prepared to help up to 30,000 get healthier in 2009 and may expand if more get involved.
CoreHealth Technologies websites span North America, inspiring fun wellness in over 40 cities, counties, provinces, states and workplaces including the State of Louisiana, State of Vermont, San Bernardino County, City of Fresno, City of Calgary, Province of British Columbia, and many others large and small.
