Great Basin Scientific, Inc. Names Laurence Rea as Vice President of Operations

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 11 Great Basin Scientific, Inc., hasnamed Laurence Rea vice president of operations, according to Ryan Ashton,president and CEO of Great Basin Scientific, a privately held life sciencescompany developing novel, point-of-care molecular diagnostic solutions. Reawill be responsible for creating the regulatory, manufacturing and qualitycontrol systems and staffing needed to take the company's molecular diagnosticproducts through clinical trials and to market. Rea also will oversee the setup of the company's manufacturing facilities in Longmont, Colo.

"We're very excited to bring someone of Larry's caliber on board with usat a time when his proven management skills will be highly valuable to ourproduct development and eventual product launches," said Ashton. "He is aveteran of the industry who has seen many products successfully through themanufacturing and regulatory process and his recent past experience atBioStar, manufacturing a chip-based rapid test, is similar to Great Basin'schip-based molecular diagnostic system."

Rea brings to Great Basin Scientific more than 20 years of engineering andmanufacturing experience, of which eight years were spent managing a GoodManufacturing Practice (GMP) facility for BioStar, Inc., a subunit ofInverness Medical Innovations, Inc., with revenues that exceeded $30 millionduring Rea's tenure. As general manager at BioStar, Rea was responsible forFDA regulatory requirements and the overall performance of the business unit.

Rea has particular expertise in seeing products through the regulatoryprocess. During his past eight years at BioStar, Rea and his staff wereresponsible for seeing multiple diagnostic products through the 510K approvalprocess. He also oversaw the pre-clinical and clinical trials at hospitalsand clinics, including institutional review board (IRB) approvals frommultiple organizations.

Rea holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from University ofColorado, Boulder, Colo.
