Huckabee has long been a thought-leader on how health care in the UnitedStates can be improved, often calling for a national emphasis on living ahealthy lifestyle for positive, long-term management of one's health. Duringhis speech, Huckabee discussed the results of the "Healthy Arkansas"initiative that he spearheaded in partnership with LifeSynch (formerly brandedas Corphealth) and HealthMedia. The program was developed to improve thehealth of State of Arkansas employees. In one year, nearly 60 percent of Stateemployee participants lost weight, 95 percent improved their nutrition and 12percent reduced their BMI by at least one unit.

"In Arkansas, we realize that the investment in prevention today becomes asavings in treatment tomorrow," said Huckabee. "In certain areas of thecountry, we grew up thinking that fried and sweet foods were the standard fora balanced diet, so for many people, the healthcare effort is about educatingnot just the body, but the mind, as well."
