MINNEAPOLIS, June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- June 30, 2017 has been proclaimed Donated Dental Services (DDS) Recognition Day by Governor Dayton to honor the more than 437 volunteer dentists, including specialists, and 106 dental laboratories that volunteered time and resources and served almost 2,000 Minnesotans in need throughout the last 14 years.

Volunteers in Dental Lifeline Network's Donated Dental Services (DDS) program exceeded $10 million in donated comprehensive dental treatment, contributed by dentists and laboratories to people with disabilities or who are elderly or medically fragile and cannot afford dental care.  Dental Lifeline Network • Minnesota was founded in 2003 in conjunction with the Minnesota Dental Association, with support from Delta Dental of Minnesota and the Minnesota Dental Foundation.

"I am so proud of the wonderful dedication of all of the DDS volunteers in our great state," said Dr. Stephen Litton co-chair of Dental Lifeline Network • Minnesota and a national DLN committee member.

"Minnesota DDS is successful because of the wonderful dentists who donate their time and services to improve the lives of people suffering daily from severe dental problems and cannot afford care," said Carmelo Cinqueonce, Executive Director, Minnesota Dental Association. "We actively encourage our member dentists to volunteer."

A DDS volunteer dentist sees patients in their own office on their own schedule and determines his or her own treatment plan. The Coordinator serves as liaison between the dentist's staff and the patient, ensures that the patient arranges for assistance from specialists and laboratories and handles all paperwork.
