CHICAGO, June 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Foundation for Endodontics ended its fundraising year on a high note, exceeding its annual goal. At the annual meeting of the American Association of Endodontists, held in New Orleans in April, the Foundation surpassed the targeted $1.4 million with a total of $1.48 million raised. To reach that goal, the Foundation relied on the networking and fundraising efforts of dedicated trustees, committee members and colleagues in the specialty, as well as the generous support of endodontists, residents and corporate partners.

"We are tremendously grateful for the support of our first time and long-time donors. Supporting the Foundation is the most fundamental way to support the future of the specialty," said Dr. Peter A. Morgan, president of the Foundation for Endodontics.

Whether by purchasing raffle tickets, making a first-time pledge or increasing a past pledge, individuals and corporations alike contributed to the Foundation, enabling funding for endodontic research, education, public awareness and access to care. The Foundation is fulfilling its mission through various activities, like competitive research grants, support of endodontic departments, heightened public awareness efforts and increased access to care for underserved sectors of the population.

Since the Foundation was incorporated as the philanthropic arm of the AAE in 1966, it has reflected its core values—to act with integrity, accountability and responsiveness, and to be innovative, collaborative and impactful—by fulfilling its mission to support endodontics. It does so by providing the profession the necessary resources and funding for vital research and education, and providing communities with public awareness and patients with access to care.

During the 2016 – 2017 fundraising campaign, the Foundation approved a new strategic plan. Outreach, or access to care, is a focus area of the plan. To offer meaningful opportunities for endodontists to support and represent the specialty and to promote the benefits of saving natural teeth in underserved communities, the Foundation developed the Outreach Program. The program is a joint effort with the Henry Schein Cares Foundation. Four times per year, through our combined efforts, three endodontists will be sent to the Helping Hands Clinic in Treasure Beach, Jamaica, to provide endodontic treatment and save many teeth that would otherwise be extracted.

"As the specialty of endodontics becomes more mainstream and international, access to care efforts provide new opportunities for the Foundation to apply our resources to benefit endodontics and patients," said Dr. Morgan. "Funding the Outreach Program will enhance care for patients in need and demonstrate the value of endodontic treatment by endodontists in a way the public can easily understand."

The Foundation thanks first-time corporate sponsors such as Henry Schein Cares Foundation, Pacific Dental Services, Inc., and Seiler Instrument and Manufacturing Co., Inc., and the continued support of corporations including, American Dental Partners, Inc., Aspen Dental, Brasseler USA, Dentsply Sirona, Edge Endo, and Global Surgical.
