Chanukah is an eight-day celebration of the rededication of the Temple inJerusalem by the Maccabees after their victory over the Syrians. According totradition, a single cruse of oil, which normally fueled the Eternal Light forone day, lasted for eight days.

In recognition of this historic event, a common Jewish practice is tolight the eight candles of a Menorah over the course of the eight nights ofChanukah. To continue that tradition, Aurora Sinai's celebration will includethe lighting of the Menorah, a choir performance from the Milwaukee Jewish DaySchool and Kosher refreshments.
Rabbi Len Lewy, director of the Jewish Chaplaincy Program of the MilwaukeeJewish Federation in cooperation with Jewish Family Services, will leadWednesday's event.
This year's program will honor the work and dedication of Shirley andStanley Kritzik. Stanley is a past chairman of the Aurora Health Care boardof directors. Shirley was an active leader of the philanthropic efforts tobuild the Easy Street program at Aurora Sinai Medical Center.
