WASHINGTON, May 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Esperanza, the largest Hispanic faith-based organization in the country, today announces their support of H.R. 1108, "The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act." The legislation gives FDA regulatory authority over tobacco products.

"Within our Hispanic community lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths. With 16.2 percent of Hispanic adults smoking cigarettes, a significant part of our community is at high-risk."

"With regulatory authority over tobacco, the FDA could further restrict sales of tobacco products to children, require more meaningful warnings on tobacco products, and enable consumers to access the information on all the ingredients in any given tobacco product," Cortes continued.
