"Supporting and advancing scientific research is a core component of what we do, and our collaboration with Harvard University will provide additional resources to the study of health and wellness," said Dr. Lenny Guarente, chief scientific officer and co-founder of Elysium Health TM who also serves as the director of the Glenn Laboratory for the Science of Aging at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "We strive to make scientific breakthroughs accessible for people who want to take a proactive role in supporting their health."

The initial project supported by Elysium Health TM will be led by Wendy Garrett, M.D., Ph.D., professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Garrett is a leader in studying the interaction of the gut microbiome with its host and its role in health and disease. The project will focus on generating a fundamental understanding of the biological mechanisms by which the microbiome and dysbiosis affect systemic levels of NAD+, a coenzyme that is essential for living cells to sustain life and mitochondrial function.

"The funded project will help us better understand the impact of gut health on overall health," said Dr. Garrett. "Basic research in microbiome science has great potential to yield discoveries that may change the way we think about health and aging."

"Academic-industry partnerships support Harvard's leading biomedical researchers in their critical investigations and help foster an environment of innovation. We look forward to a productive collaboration with Elysium," said Isaac T. Kohlberg, Harvard's Senior Associate Provost and Chief Technology Development Officer.
